Tone- Work diary.

Evaluation of session;

When we were first told we had to take pictures of 'tone' i was confused as to what tone was and how to capture it in a photograph. When i think of tone i automatically think of sound which is why i was confused. One we had tone explained to us i became clear on what it was but i was still unsure as to how to capture it in a photograph, so when we went outside i started just taking photos of anything and everything in hope of there being difference in tones. It was difficult to take good photographs as we had to take them in black and white but you could only see what it looks like in black and white on the screen on the camera, but as we cannot use the screen to take the picture i could not tell what the photo looked like in black and white.

The first photograph i took that i have selected to  evaluate is this one that shows a table and bench. I like this photograph as i wasn't expecting it to show the different tones as well as it did. You can clearly see that the table and bench are lighter tones in places where it has worn away and been scratched slightly, and that it is darker in places where it is dirtier. As well as this underneath the table you can slightly see that it is lighter in the middle that around the edges as it had been raining that day and you can see that it is darker where the rain hit the floor and lighter underneath the table where it is sheltered from the rain. This
                                                                                   photo was influenced by Diane Arbus as there isn't
                                                                                  a big contrast between the tones of the table and the
                          grass behind it.

The second photograph or mine i have chosen to write about is the one above that shows the pattern on the sleeve of someones shirt. I like this image as when i was taking it i knew there would be difference in tone even in black and white but i didn't know what parts would be the darkest as the shirt is white, blue and red. I already assumed that the white would be the lightest tone but i was interested to find out that the blue stripes are darker than the red stiles as in real life there is little or no difference in the tone of the two colours. This photo was influence by the work of Jerry Ueslmann as in his work there is a variety of
                                                                                  different tones provided by the different colours,
                                                     like on the shirt in this picture.
Progression;
If were to go out again and take more photos of tone, i would like to taken some in colour not just in black and white then maybe edit them to black and white afterwards so i can see the difference in tones and how they change when they re black and white for myself. Or i would make sure to look at each photo after i had taken it so i can see if they look good or not or if i should retake them.
